'He will renew' - Napoli owner insists no danger of losing Osimhen amid Chelsea, Man Utd links

Napoli owner and chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that there's no danger of losing Victor Osimhen in the near future.

De Laurentiis is confident that Osimhen will put pen to paper on a new contract with the Italian champions despite speculation linking him with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium in recent days.

The relationship between Osimhen and Napoli appeared to have gone sour when his agent Roberto Calenda threatened to take legal action against the club for a video posted on their official TikTok account mocking the Nigeria international for missing a penalty against Bologna.

Chelsea and Manchester United were reportedly monitoring the fallout between Osimhen and Napoli, and it was suggested that the Premier League clubs could use the spat to step up their interest in the 24-year-old after they were priced out of a deal in the summer transfer window.

Napoli are determined to keep their star striker away from the Premier League giants and are also trying to make sure they get a profitable fee from his possible sale in the future.

The Italian outfit have been in talks with the Super Eagles forward on extending his stay in Naples but both parties are yet to reach a compromise, and one of the sticking points is the release clause to be inserted into the proposed new deal.

Speaking after his side's 3-2 loss to Real Madrid on match day two of the UEFA Champions League yesterday,  the 74-year-old expressed his confidence in retaining the Ballon d'Or nominee

"Victor always strong. He is a player who makes a team on his own. He is not in question, " De Laurentiis told Chiringuito TV via Eurosport

"Osimhen will renew the contract because the players here are happy , they only become sad when they leave"

The 24-year-old Osimhen joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 and has established himself as a key player, helping them to scoop the Scudetto last season after a 33-year wait.
