'He's in top seven strikers around the world' - Fabrizio Romano provides update on Chelsea target Osimhen
Published: October 10, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Victor Osimhen, who has been linked with a departure from Napoli after his recent public spat with Napoli.
Osimhen's agent, Roberto Calenda, threatened to sue Napoli after the club's official TikTok account mocked the striker for missing a penalty against Bologna.
The incident occurred after the Super Eagles star was involved in a touchline row with Napoli coach Rudi Garcia following his substitution in the 86th minute of the goalless draw at Bologna.
Although all the parties have seemingly settled their differences, the future of Osimhen at Napoli has been thrown into doubt.
Chelsea are in the market for a proven goalscorer and are monitoring the situation of the Nigeria international who will have one year left on his Napoli contract at the end of this season
Of the top eleven teams in the Premier League table, only Crystal Palace (7) and Manchester United (9) have scored fewer goals than Chelsea (11).
Romano revealed that Osimhen is still in talks with Napoli over extending his stay at the Diego Maradona Stadium but nothing has been agreed as of now.
Speaking on his Daily Briefing Substack, Romano said: "There are still discussions ongoing between Osimhen’s camp and Napoli, no decision made yet. It will continue in the next weeks to understand what’s going to happen.
"It will be interesting to see what happens with Osimhen from here as I’d say he is in the top seven strikers around the world.
"He perhaps still needs more top level European football experience and he was unlucky as injured in the first leg of semi-final vs AC Milan last year, but I think he clearly has it in him to play at the very highest level."
Osimhen has contributed 65 goals and fifteen assists in 111 appearances since his move to Napoli from Lille in 2020.
