'Clement will be very disappointed' - Ex-Celtic striker blames Balogun for Aberdeen's goal in 1-1 draw v Rangers
Published: November 26, 2023
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has suggested that Leon Balogun should be blamed for the goal Rangers conceded during their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in a Scottish Premiership match at Pittodrie Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was a great start to the game for Aberdeen as Bojan Miovski opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he got in behind the Rangers defence before slotting past goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Rangers salvaged a dramatic draw thanks to James Tavernier, who converted a controversial penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time for his thirteenth goal of the season.
Super Eagles star Leon Balogun made his fourth consecutive start for the Light Blues, partnering Connor Goldson in the middle of the defence.
Sutton has blasted the experienced Nigerian defender for dropping off and allowing Ester Sokler to head a clearance from goalkeeper Kelle Roos in the build-up to Miovski's goal.
"Miovski’s anticipating where the header is going to land and Balogun isn’t and that’s the difference," Sutton said on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday via Ibrox News.
"I’ve got to say, the finish was superb but it was really avoidable from Rangers’ perspective.
"I think Philippe Clement will be very disappointed by the nature of that goal. That’s as basic as it can be."
Balogun was so close to making amends in the 74th minute when he rose highest to meet a corner but his header hit the woodwork.
