Chelsea looking elsewhere for top striker with Osimhen heavily linked with transfer to PSG
Published: February 16, 2024
Chelsea are exploring alternatives to Victor Osimhen after it emerged that the Super Eagles forward is a priority target for PSG as a replacement for the departing Kylian Mbappé.
According to The Standard's Nizaar Kinsella, the Stamford Bridge outfit have begun to sound out alternatives to the Napoli forward as they seek to bolster their central forward position next summer.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Brighton youngster Evan Ferguson are on their list but the Blues want to keep their search open.
Chelsea have always been a big admirer of Osimhen and considered to be in the front seat for his signature but PSG's latest interest might have changed things.
While the two-time European champions are ready to pay the Nigeria international's release clause, it is skeptical whether they will be able to match the French giants' wages proposal.
It has been reported that the reigning CAF Men's Player of the Year will demand at least £250,000 a week which might be excessive for Chelsea but not for the French club.
Osimhen has previously declared his interest in playing in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see whether PSG succeed in persuading him to return to the Ligue 1.
