Manchester United keeping tabs on history-making Lagos-born striker
Published: March 14, 2024
Manchester United are said to be keeping close tabs on history-making Lagos-born striker George Ilenikhena who has been one of the revelations in the Jupiler Pro League.
According to Voetbalnieuws citing Sacha Tavolieri, the Premier League giants are admirers of the young Royal Antwerp striker and are following him.
While the forward is not one of the first names on the Belgian defending champions' teamsheet, he has shown how talented he is.
Despite just starting six league games since the start of the campaign, Ilenikhena is close to hitting double figures for goal involvement, recording eight goals and one assist thus far.
Last December, the 17-year-old scored the match-winning goal for Royal Antwerp in their 3-2 win over Barcelona on matchday six of the UEFA Champions League.
He entered into the history books as the youngest Nigerian-born player to score in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 119 days, overtaking previous record holder and Inter Milan icon Obafemi Martins
Ilenikhena started his professional career with the French side Amiens whom he joined in 2021 before switching to Antwerp last summer.
Having just joined the Belgian club and is under contract till 2027, it is going to cost a sizeable fee for Manchester United to grasp his signature.
