Michael Kayode: Just how good is Super Eagles-eligible fullback linked with Arsenal?
Published: March 17, 2024
With the European season drawing to a close, clubs are already preparing for the next campaign by looking at potential targets in the next transfer.
Premier League table toppers Arsenal are not left behind and they have been linked with Italian-Nigerian fullback Michael Kayode who plies his trade with Italian side Fiorentina.
Kayode joined the Violets in 2021 but didn't make his first team debut till last August and has not looked back since then.
Kayode has arguably been the best right back in the Serie A this season, with his 6.9 rating by whoscored.com.being the best of all players in his position.
Despite playing in the Italian top-flight for the first time in his career, he is already showing that he has the quality to become one of the best in his position
The 19-year-old is not afraid to put in a tackle, averaging 2.1 tackles per game the third highest for Fiorentina in the Serie A this term and he rarely gets dribbled past, making him a very good one-the-one defender.
His ability to read danger is also laudable, averaging the 5th most clearances and interceptions per game for Vincenzo Italiano's side.
Offensively, the Italy youth international has three goal involvements in the Serie A and has the ability to beat his man to put a cross in, reinforcing why I said he has the potential to become an all-round and World Class right back.
While Ben White has just signed a new contract with Arsenal, he is not a natural right back and Kayode can rival him for a place in the starting lineup.
Even if the Super Eagles-eligible defender joins Mikel Arteta's side and doesn't beat White to a place in the team, he is still very young and can become the heir apparent for the English versatile defender.
