'It's something I dreamt about' - Chelsea midfielder Chukwuemeka wants to play at Wembley
Published: March 20, 2024
Chelsea rising star Carney Chukwuemeka is excited about the prospect of playing at the National Stadium in London.
The Blues will face Manchester City in the semifinals of the 2023-2024 FA Cup at Wembley after victories against Preston North End, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Leicester City in the earlier rounds of the competition.
Chukwuemeka and fellow Nigeria-eligible player Noni Madueke came off the bench to inspire Chelsea to a 4-2 win against Leicester City, with the duo scoring brilliant goals in the closing minutes of the contest at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old didn't get the opportunity to step onto the Wembley turf on February 25, 2024 when Chelsea faced off with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup showpiece because he was sidelined by injury.
Chukwuemeka has had an injury plagued season, after his promising displays in the first two matches he started at the beginning of the campaign.
The England youth teamer scored his first senior goal in a London derby against West Ham United back in August, but his joy turned to pain within seventeen minutes when he suffered an injury to his left knee.
Speaking to Chelsea's official website, Chukwuemeka said: "We went into this season wanting to win trophies and play in finals.
"So it's a massive opportunity for us as a young squad. Another opportunity to play at Wembley, and hopefully we get to the final.
"It's amazing for me. I missed the Carabao Cup final due to injury so to get the chance to play at Wembley is the stuff of dreams for me.
"It's something I dreamt about as a kid as I'm a Chelsea fan, so I can't wait."
This season, Chukwuemeka has played in nine games from a possible 39 in all competitions.
