Confirmed: Talented Nigerian central midfielder signs new contract at Tottenham Hotspur
Published: March 25, 2024
With a statement on their official website, Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Lambeth-born Nigerian youngster Callum Olusesi has signed a new contract with the club.
The Lilywhites have opted not to reveal the duration of the contract signed by the central midfielder but confirmed that he has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club.
Fifa's regulations on the status and transfer of players state that 'players under the age of 18 may not sign a professional contract for a term longer than three years and any clause referring to a longer period shall not be recognised'.
Last summer, Olusesi signed scholarship forms with Tottenham and also agreed to a professional deal effective upon his 17th birthday in March 2024.
The 17-year-old is the second Nigerian player to sign a pro deal with the north London club in 2024, following in the footsteps of Damola Ajayi who inked a fresh contract in January.
Tottenham's coaching staff holds Olusesi in high regard, as evidenced by his debut appearances in the UEFA Youth League, U18 Premier League, and U18 Premier League Cup during his last season as a schoolboy.
He has added goals to his game this term, mustering nine in total in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup.
Olusesi has represented his country of birth England at U16 and U17 levels.
