Nigerian forward nominated for Tottenham Hotspur's March Goal of the Month award
Published: April 03, 2024Promising Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi has been nominated for Tottenham Hotspur's Goal of the Month award for March 2024.
The official website of Tottenham has picked the top six goals from the eighteen scored in 12 games across the club's four teams - Men's First Team, Women's First Team, Under-21s and Under-18s - and asked supporters to pick the best strike.
Ajayi has been shortlisted for his stunning match-winning goal for the development squad in their 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough U21 in a Premier League 2 game on March 17.
With the score level at 1-1 and both teams in search of a winning goal, Tottenham U21 boss Wayne Burnett brought on Ajayi as a replacement for former Chelsea starlet Jude Soonsup-Bell at minute 70 and it proved to be an inspired substitute.
Ajayi nicked the points for the visitors when he slotted home via a deflection after Rio Kyerematen picked up a loose ball and laid it to him.
The 18-year-old faces competition from Timo Werner, Archie Chaplin, James Maddison, Heung-Min Son and Matilda Vinberg to win the Goal of the Month award.
This season, he has contributed directly to eighteen goals (11 goals, 7 assists) across a total of 20 appearances spanning the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, EFL Trophy, and FA Youth Cup.
Ajayi signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024.
