AC Milan, Arsenal or Manchester United? Bologna striker Zirkzee chooses his next club
Published: April 04, 2024
Bologna's Nigeria-eligible striker Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly chosen to continue his career in the Italian Serie A rather than moving to the English Premier League in the summer transfer window.
According to Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zirkzee would gladly stay in Serie A as he wants to continue his development without changing leagues, and considers AC Milan a welcome destination.
Zirkzee's former club Bayern Munich have a 40 million euros option to exercise at the end of the season but the Bundesliga giants are not interested n bringing him back as they have Harry Kane up front.
The Netherlands youth teamer has also been linked with top clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and Napoli but he prefers a move to AC Milan.
The Rossoneri are believed to be in the market for a center forward to replace former Arsenal and Chelsea star Olivier Giroud, who has reportedly agreed to join MLS outfit Los Angeles FC on a free transfer at season's end.
AC Milan are confident that Zirkzee's transfer fee could drop to 50 million euros in the event Alexis Saelemaekers is used as a makeweight in the deal taking the Dutch-Nigerian forward to the seven-time European champions.
The Belgian winger is currently playing for Bologna on loan from AC Milan until the summer, with an option to buy included in the deal.
As per the report, Manchester United have already initiated negotiations with Zirkzee, and if they come forward with a substantial offer, it could satisfy everyone involved, except Milan, who would need to explore alternative options.
Similarly, Arsenal, though less prominently discussed, have an ideal project for Zirkzee.
