Solanke battles Man Utd striker, Chelsea loanee, 5 others for Premier League Goal of the Month
Published: April 04, 2024
Bournemouth's Nigeria-eligible striker Dominic Solanke has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for March 2024.
Solanke scored the pick of the goals as Bournemouth bested Luton Town in a seven-goal thriller at the Vitality Stadium on March 13.
Trailing by three goals after the opening half, the Cherries achieved a miracle, coming from behind to achieve a win, with Solanke beginning the comeback with a goal four minutes into the second half.
The Anglo-Nigerian striker fended off three defenders near the edge of the 18-yard box, executed a sharp turn, rolled the ball between one of his markers' legs, before skillfully lifting it over the advancing Kaminski.
His brilliant strike against the Hatters is up against Brentford's Yoane Wissa; Manchester United's Marcus Rashford; Manchester City's Phil Foden; Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana; Newcastle's Jacob Murphy; Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta and Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz.
Solanke will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of former Fulham defender Ola Aina and 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise who have both won the Premier League Goal of the Month award in the past.
With sixteen goals to his name in 30 league outings, Solanke is the top-scoring player of Nigerian descent in the top five European Leagues comprising the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Italian Serie A and Ligue 1.
