Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd in race for Napoli striker Osimhen
Published: April 05, 2024
French giants Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly surged ahead of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in the pursuit of Napoli and Super Eagles prolific striker, Victor Osimhen.
Il Corriere dello Sport says PSG have "moved into front row" to secure the signature of the coveted Nigerian forward.
According to the report, the Ligue 1 powerhouse are edging closer to matching Napoli's hefty €130 million release clause for Osimhen, seen as the prime candidate to fill Kylian Mbappé's shoes, amid expectations of his move to Real Madrid by the season's end.
Although Osimhen recently extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, the deal reportedly included the hefty €130 million release clause, meaning the Serie A club would be obliged to bid farewell to their top scorer should this clause be activated.
Furthermore, the newspaper emphasized PSG's established transfer dealings with Napoli, citing the transfers of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani to the Parisians in 2012 and 2013 respectively, for a combined €95 million.
Napoli's good relationship with PSG in terms of transfer dealings was also highlighted by Fabián Ruiz's move to the Ligue 1 club in the summer of 2022.
Although Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are all interested in Osimhen, PSG have seemingly emerged as the frontrunner to land the 25-year-old.
Osimhen was absolutely on fire for Napoli last season, as he sat atop the Serie A scoring charts which saw him clinch the Capocannoniere award for the league's top scorer amongst other numerous awards, including finishing 8th at the Ballon d'Or rankings and scooping the Africa Footballer of the year award.
This season, the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner has been pretty decent for Napoli, netting eleven goals and assisting thrice in eighteen league appearances.
