PL2: George's goal against Aston Villa helps Chelsea secure place in title-deciding playoffs
Published: April 08, 2024England youth international of Nigerian descent Tyrique George was among the scorers as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 4-0 at Bodymoor Heath on Monday evening to secure their place in the Premier League 2 playoffs.
Chelsea's development squad have now won their last six consecutive matches in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and conceding four goals during that streak while posting three clean sheets.
George and Richard Olise, younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, joined the action in the second half.
Aston Villa didn't offer much resistance as the visitors opened the scoring through Dujuan Richards and the Jamaica international went on to double the advantage in the 21st minute.
Deivid Washington found the net in the 63rd minute to put the game beyond the reach of Aston Villa.
Chelsea got a fourth goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time as George raced through and slotted the ball past goalkeeper James Wright.
George, who is 18 years old, has showcased his talent this season by being involved in eighteen goals - thirteen goals scored and five assists - in a combined total of twenty-seven matches across the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.
Aston Villa's Nigerian duo Jamaldeen Jimoh and Chisom Afoka featured against Chelsea, with the former replacing the latter in the 71st minute.
Chelsea U21s are next in action on Friday evening as they face Crystal Palace in a London derby.
