Super Eagles striker Maja makes his injury comeback for West Brom after 123 days out
Published: April 10, 2024Super Eagles forward Josh Maja made a comeback from injury during West Brom's 2-0 win over Rotherham in a midweek English Championship fixture played at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night.
It was his first appearance in 123 days for West Brom, after suffering an injury during the Championship clash against his former employers Sunderland on December 9, 2023.
Brandon Thomas-Asante gave West Brom the lead in the 23rd minute, heading home Adam Reach's cross before John Swift bagged their second of the game from the penalty spot in the first additional minute of the first half.
Maja was brought on to replace Thomas-Asante in the 83rd minute of the encounter - his ninth appearance off the bench since joining the club last summer.
As expected, the former Bordeaux forward had a quiet game though spent little time on the field, had just two touches, attempted just two passes, only one of which he completed and was dispossessed once.
The 25-year-old's first season at the Hawthorns has been plagued with injuries, missing 10 leagues earlier on in the season before recovering last November.
He could feature for four games before getting injured for the second time and has been out of action until tonight.
The one-cap Nigeria international will be hoping he has overcome his fitness worries so as to play a crucial role in Carlos Corberán's side quest to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
