Osimhen nets 15th of the season as Napoli booed off by their supporters after dropping points v Frosinone
Published: April 14, 2024
Napoli missed the chance to leapfrog Atalanta in the Serie A standings after they were held to a 2-2 draw by strugglers Frosinone at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues were ahead at the interval thanks to Matteo Politano's strike in the sixteenth minute of the contest, only to be pegged back by a resilient Frosinone side spearheaded by Walid Cheddira.
After Cheddira's equalizer in the 50th minute, Osimhen steered the ball home from close range following a shot by Kvaratskhelia at minute 63.
But the Giallazzurri showed their resilience as Cheddira headed the ball home in the 73rd minute to wipe off Osimhen's goal.
The intensity of the game increased in the closing minutes as Napoli pushed for a winning goal but ultimately fell short.
The Parthenopeans supporters expressed their displeasure at the end of the game by booing off the Napoli players.
Osimhen's goal against Frosinone took his tally for the season to fifteen in all competitions, with thirteen coming in the Premier League and two in the Champions League.
The 2022-2023 Serie A champions have struggled for consistency in recent months, registering back-to-back wins just once since the start of 2024.
Napoli occupy eighth place in the standings with 49 points, six games to the end of the season.
