'Probably there will be offers' - Bournemouth boss expects bids for history-making striker of Nigerian descent
Published: April 27, 2024
One-cap England international of Nigerian descent, Dominic Solanke has made a splash with his performances for Bournemouth in the Premier League this season.
When he found the net against Manchester United at Old Trafford exactly two weeks ago, he entered into the history books as the top-scoing Bournemouth player in a single Premier League season, surpassing Joshua King who managed 16 goals in 2016-2017.
Solanke has now taken his tally to eighteen goals in the division with his strike against Aston Villa on April 21.
Top Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on the Super Eagles-eligible striker, with the likes of Arsenal, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with an interest.
Speaking at Friday's pre-match press conference, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted that he expects clubs to make bids for Solanke in the summer transfer window and believes he would be worth a lot of money in today's market given his outstanding performances.
In quotes relayed by The BBC, Iraola said: "For me as a manager, he is worth a lot of money. The more expensive we put him, the better for the manager.
"I understand the club, I think we will try to keep him. It is what we want. We don't want anyone to come with the money but we know how the market works, but I will not be the one to put on the price.
"If I was to, it will be very easy for me to put it very, very expensive, but we will see. He has scored a lot of goals, he played very well, probably there will be offers for him, yes."
Solanke made the move to Bournemouth in January 2019, having previously represented both Chelsea and Liverpool.
The 26-year-old has a contract with the Cherries until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
