'We had reports of a done deal' - Fabrizio Romano reveals the truth about Tosin to Newcastle rumours
Published: May 01, 2024
Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has addressed claims that Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to sign for Newcastle United after successful talks with the leadership of the Magpies.
It was claimed that the Nigerian central defender had been offered a long term deal that would see him earn more than £100,000-a-week with the St, James Park outfit.
Fulham made efforts to tie down Tosin to a new deal, offering him a contract that would have made him one of the highest paid players at the club but his mind was already made up on his future.
The Manchester City academy product has decided to end his four-year association with Fulham, and this has placed several clubs on alert including Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and West Ham.
For the first time in ten Premier League matches, Tosin was not called up for Fulham's 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace last weekend, an indication that he was surplus to requirements for the remaining three matches of the season after finally turning down a new contract.
Romano has clarified that the race for the signature of Tosin is still open despite suggestions that he had agreed to join Newcastle United.
"Tosin Adarabioyo, one of the most interesting names on the market especially in England. I told you last Friday Tosin is going to leave Fulham as a free agent. It's over between Tosin and Fulham, that exclusive news is now confirmed," Romano said on his YouTube page.
"They offered him a new contract weeks and months ago but no chance to extend. Tosin wants to try something different and today we had reports of a done deal with Newcastle, what I'm hearing is that the race is still open for any club so nothing is done, signed or agreed with Newcastle.
"Newcastle have an interest in Tosin, he's one of the players they have in their shortlist, for sure they will look at free agents opportunities."
Tosin has made 132 appearances for Fulham in all competitions, registering five goals and two assists.
