'He'd be my first choice' - Former Gunner urges Arsenal to sign proven goalscorer Victor Osimhen
Published: May 21, 2024
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the Gunners to go all out for Napoli star Victor Osimhen, saying that he could be the final piece in Arsenal's Premier League title jigsaw.
Petit, who was part of Arsenal's 1997-98 Premier League-winning team, believes that Osimhen's physical strength and goal-scoring ability make him an ideal signing for Arsenal, who have fallen narrowly short in back-to-back campaigns.
Osimhen has been impressive since his big money move to Napoli in 2020, scoring 76 goals in 132 all-competition appearances.
His form has attracted the attention of several top clubs, including Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their squad to challenge Manchester City's dominance in the Premier League.
Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, Petit said, according to Goal: "I think Arsenal need a 30-goal striker to finally win the Premier League and that man could be Victor Osimhen, who has been amazing with Lille and then Napoli.
"His dream is to come to England and he could be brilliant here. He's physically so strong and is an out and out number nine, so he'd be my first choice."
Petit believes that Arsenal need to strengthen their squad significantly to compete with Manchester City, who have made history with four successive Premier League titles.
"To compete with Man City, Arsenal need four more players, though. City can bring on five players with incredible quality and right now, Arsenal can't, so they need to have a busy summer ahead," Petit said.
Overall, Petit's endorsement of Osimhen highlights the need for Arsenal to strengthen their squad to challenge for the Premier League title.
With the right signings, Arsenal could finally end their wait for a domestic crown, and Osimhen could be the missing piece of the Arsenal puzzle.
