'Would happily join Chelsea' - Insider reveals Osimhen is ready to move to Stamford Bridge
Published: May 29, 2024
Chelsea insider Simon Phillips has revealed that Super Eagles star forward Victor Osimhen is open to joining the Stamford Bridge outfit amid interest from PSG and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
The Blues have been predominantly linked with the Napoli star as the club want to sign a striker in the forthcoming transfer window in a bid to strengthen their team ahead of the next campaign.
Chelsea signed Senegal international Nicolas Jackson last summer and despite enjoying a decent first season at Stamford Bridge, the West London side are still looking to sign a striker.
Osimhen has long been in their books and with indications that he wants to leave Napoli this summer, they have joined the queue of clubs wanting to sign him up.
The 25-year-old reportedly wants a move to Premier League which should serve an encouragement for Chelsea but activating his €130m release clause will be pivotal in making a deal happen.
Phillips has revealed that the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner will be open to joining the two-time European champions but nothing is advanced as of yet between the two parties.
"It's all quiet at the moment and the ball remains in Chelsea's court. An Italian source I've spoken to is adamant that Osimhen would happily join Chelsea and would be up for the move.
"But nothing has advanced as of yet and Chelsea have still been deciding on which striker to go for and whether they can afford to pay up for Osimhen. A deal would need to be done that fully favours Chelsea for this to happen."he wrote in his Substack via GIVEMESPORT.
The challenge facing the club now is how to complete the signing of the Nigerian striker without breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules, a regulation that has been put in place by the Premier League to regulate clubs' finances.
