Osimhen's N189b release clause proving a stumbling block to potential suitors Chelsea and PSG
Published: June 02, 2024
According to a report from Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Victor Osimhen's future at Napoli remains uncertain as his hefty €130 million (approximately N189 billion in Nigerian currency) release clause deters potential suitors.
The Nigerian striker is reportedly keen on a new challenge, possibly in the Premier League, while Napoli are eager to generate a significant transfer fee.
This summer transfer window could see Osimhen depart Naples, but his high valuation has become a major obstacle.
Chelsea have shifted their focus to signing a young striker in the mould of RB Leipzig's Slovenia international Benjamin Šeško.
Paris Saint-Germain also emerged as a possible destination, but they appear to have prioritized signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is seen as a better fit for their system following Kylian Mbappe's departure.
Napoli, however, are unwilling to part ways with Kvaratskhelia and is likely to reject any lowball offers for the winger.
Osimhen's hefty €10 million annual salary further complicates his transfer. Only a handful of clubs can realistically afford his wages, limiting Napoli's options.
The situation creates a dilemma for Napoli. The club desires a significant transfer fee but risks being stuck with an unhappy player on their books if a suitable buyer isn't found.
Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has his work cut out for him in navigating this complex situation.
While there is no official movement yet, the transfer window is still open. Napoli will be hoping to find a solution that satisfies both the club's financial needs and Osimhen's desire for a new challenge.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has registered twenty-five appearances for the Partenopei in the Serie A this season, racking up eighteen goals contributions (fifteen goals and three assists).
