Chelsea shift attention to Cobham product, Arsenal target after pulling out of race for Osimhen
Published: June 02, 2024
Chelsea have abandoned their pursuit of Napoli's Victor Osimhen due to financial constraints, considerably bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga.
The Blues had identified Osimhen as a priority target to address their attacking woes, but the Nigerian forward's hefty release clause proved a significant deterrent.
The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner's impressive form in Italy, with over 76 goals in the last four years, made him a coveted asset.
His pace, power, and clinical finishing ability would have been a welcome addition to Chelsea's attack. However, Chelsea's withdrawal from the race leaves Napoli with little pressure to sell their prized asset.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea have now shifted their focus to alternative options, including a surprise return for academy graduate Tammy Abraham.
Abraham spent his youth career at Cobham, graduating from their under-8 setup, and made 82 senior appearances before departing for Roma in 2021.
In the course of his ongoing stint at the Italian capital, Abraham has impressed in Serie A, despite suffering a serious injury last year.
While Abraham is not necessarily the top target, he remains a viable option. Simon Phillips, a Chelsea reporter, suggests Abraham is "potentially still in the frame" as the club searches for a new striker.
However, Chelsea are also exploring other options, including RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
The Blues are reportedly competing with Arsenal for the striker's signature, as they seek to bolster their attacking lineup.
Sesko's impressive form in the Bundesliga and his versatility as a striker would make him an excellent addition to Chelsea's attack.
Chelsea's struggles in front of goal are well-documented, and the club is determined to address the issue this summer.
The club's hierarchy is working tirelessly to identify the right candidate, and a significant signing is eagerly awaited to propel the team forward.
