Nigerian defender undergoing a medical ahead of transfer to Chelsea
Published: June 04, 2024
English Premier League giants Chelsea are close to confirming the capture of Manchester-born Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo.
According to the online edition of The Daily Mail, Tosin has been undergoing medicals today ahead of his move to Chelsea.
The Blues have pulled off a massive transfer coup by luring him to Stamford Bridge, beating the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United to his signature.
The Magpies were in pole position to sign the Super Eagles-eligible player and were nearing an agreement, but Chelsea stole a march on their rivals by making a better offer late last week,
Tosin is joining Chelsea as a free agent after turning down a new contract that would have made him one of the highest paid players at Fulham.
He was highly sought after by Premier League clubs because he is a free agent and has Premier League experience.
A right-footed player, Tosin is widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and has scored three goals in 78 matches in the division.
He is set to reunite with new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, whom he worked with at Manchester City.
Chelsea were in the market for a central defender to replace experienced Brazilian, Thiago Silva who departed the club at the end of the recently concluded season.
