Announcement imminent: Nigerian centre-back joins Chelsea on four-year deal
Published: June 07, 2024
Premier League giants Chelsea are set to confirm the capture of highly coveted London-born Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo.
According to Italian transfer market guru, Fabrizio Romano, Tosin passed his medical with flying colours, paving the way for the former England youth international to put pen to paper on a four-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2028.
Tosin completed his medical examinations on Wednesday and has already agreed personal terms with The Blues.
The Manchester City academy product is poised to begin a new stage in his career after four seasons with Chelsea's local rivals Fulham, during which he won the EFL Championship and was named in the PFA and EFL Teams of the Season for 2021-2022.
Overall, he scored five goals in 132 appearances as a Fulham player, including 78 matches in the Premier League.
Tosin has joined Chelsea as a free agent after rejecting a new contract that would have made him one of the highest paid players at Fulham.
The likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United also had hopes of luring Tosin but Chelsea stole a march on their rivals by quickly concluding negotiations.
Chelsea made a big change to their transfer policy of signing players under the age of 25 to bring the Nigerian to the club.
The 26-year-old Tosin links up with Nigeria-eligible trio Lesley Ugochukwu, Noni Madueke and Carney Chukwuemeka at Stamford Bridge.
