Elder brother of Nigeria's saviour against South Africa in talks with Watford over new deal
Published: June 08, 2024
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru emerged as Nigeria's saviour in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday evening, with his first international goal saving the Super Eagles from suffering a humiliating loss.
Tom Dele-Bashiru, Fisayo's elder brother, is in advanced talks to extend his contract with Championship club Watford, according to Sky Sports.
A central midfielder and product of the Manchester City academy like his brother, Tom is on the verge of extending his contract with the Hornets, with a three-year deal on the table for the 24-year-old.
Tom Dele-Bashiru joined Watford on a six-year contract after starring for the Flying Eagles at the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup in Poland, where he found the net against Qatar in Nigeria's opening game of the tournament.
The Hornets are keen on extending his stay at Vicarage Road on the back of his impressive performances over the course of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Dele-Bashiru had his best season in a Watford shirt, registering six goal involvements, including a 33rd second goal in a 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the season.
The former England U16 international will enter the final year of his contract with Watford on July 1, 2024.
He spent time on loan at Reading in the 2021-2022 campaign, netting four goals and providing three assists in 39 games.
Tom Dele-Bashiru was a member of the Olympic Eagles squad to the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
