Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray or Trabzonspor: Southampton's Onuachu reveals club he wants to play for
Published: June 21, 2024
Southampton striker Paul Onuachu has expressed his desire to play for Trabzonspor amid interest from other Turkish Super Lig clubs.
The Nigeria international spent last season on loan at the Black Sea Storm and is doing everything to wear the club's jersey again in the 2024-2025 season.
Besiktas and Galatasaray have both been linked with a summer move for Onuachu, while Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce have him as an option in case they fail to land their primary target.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Trabzonspor continue to push for the transfer of the Nigerian center forward and are working on closing the deal before the start of their pre-season training camp in Hungary on July 1, 2024.
Onuachu has informed his agent that he wants to play for only Trabzonspor in Turkey and asked Southampton to facilitate his return to the Black Sea Storm.
The 30-year-old has not vacated the house he lived in ahead of a possible return to Trabzonspor.
Southampton initially valued the lanky striker at 15 million euros, before his price tag was brought down to 10 million euros.
Trabzonspor are aiming to bring Onuachu back on another loan deal, as a permanent transfer appears financially unfeasible for them.
To sweeten the proposed deal, Trabzonspor have offered to send two of their players to Göztepe, a club in which Sport Republic holds a 70 percent stake.
After struggling in his first six months as a Southampton player, Onuachu rediscovered his form at Trabzonspor, netting 15 goals and contributing 4 assists in 21 league games.
