Four Nigerian players including Nwaneri participate in Arsenal U21s first pre-season training session

Arsenal's development squad players reported for their first day of pre-season training at the Sobha Realty Training Centre in London Colney on Monday, July 1, with four players of Nigerian descent involved, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Development squad coach Mehmet Ali ran the rule over history-making attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo and fullback Josh Nichols.
Nichols was offered a new deal at the end of last season and his attendance at training today suggests he has accepted it.
It is confirmed that Okonkwo has committed his future to the Gunners with the goalkeeper set to sign his first professional contract and will be promoted to the development squad on a full-time basis in 2024-2025.
Nwaneri reported for training on the first day of pre-season activities despite representing England at the 2024 European U17 Championship.
He flourished last season with 22 goal involvements (18 goals, 4 assists) in 21 matches for the Arsenal teams.
Arsenal will begin their pre-season with an opening fixture against Boreham Wood FC at Mangata Pay UK Stadium on Sunday, July 13, followed by matches against National League South new boys Enfield Town.
Rapid Vienna, Bishop Stortford, Lincoln City and Stoke City U21s are their four other opponents during pre-season preparations.
Arsenal U21s reached the quarterfinals of the Premier League 2 playoffs in 2023-2024.
