Confirmed: Talented centre forward of Nigerian descent signs scholarship deal at Stoke City
Published: July 05, 2024
Through a statement on their official website, Championship outfit Stoke City have announced the new intake of academy scholars for the 2024-2025 season, with a Nigerian centre forward part of the group.
Jayden Ogbebor put pen to paper on a two-year scholarship at a special celebration event at the bet365 Stadium on Sunday with Academy Director Gareth Owen, accompanied by Academy staff from all departments in attendance.
Connor Day, Oghosaiwi Enabulele, Daniel Eyaife, Elliot Fearn, Laurence Giani, Ryan Liu, Tommy McNally, Pedro Nzau, Sanchez Phillips, Owen Powell and Jensen Tortoishell have also signed scholarship deals.
As per Premier League rules, all players in their U17 year are required to start the 2024-2025 season on a scholarship agreement, before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.
Ogbebor is a centre forward who joined Stoke City at U13 level from grassroots football, and has been described as a striker who loves playing on the shoulder and comes alive in the box.
The six-foot-plus striker is known for scoring from various positions and has represented England at youth level.
He mustered eight goals in fifteen appearances combined in the U18 Premier League as a schoolboy and also featured in the U18 Premier League Cup.
Jayden Ogbebor commenced a new chapter in his career at Clayton Wood on Monday, July 1.
