Report: Chelsea winger Noni Madueke gives green light to Newcastle United move
Published: July 26, 2024
Noni Madueke has reportedly agreed to join Premier League side Newcastle United following a difficult season with Chelsea.
According to Football Insider, the 22-year-old winger has agreed to personal terms with Newcastle and is now the most likely candidate among the club's right-wing targets.
Madueke joined Chelsea from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 on a seven-and-a-half-year contract.
During his time at PSV, Madueke featured in 80 games across all competitions, scoring 20 goals.
He played a pivotal role in PSV's success, helping the team win the KNVB Cup in the 2021/2022 season and the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2021.
His impressive performances in the Eredivisie attracted interest from several top European clubs, with Chelsea ultimately securing his signature.
However, Madueke struggled to find his footing early in his Chelsea career. He scored his first goal for the Blues on May 2, 2023, in a 3-1 league defeat against Arsenal.
Despite the challenging start, Madueke finished the 2023-2024 season showing glimpses of his potential, tallying 8 goals and 3 assists in 34 appearances.
As Chelsea prepare for the upcoming season, Madueke is expected to be second choice to star player Cole Palmer, who is anticipated to start on the right wing under manager Enzo Maresca.
Faced with limited first-team opportunities, Madueke has reportedly opted for a move to Newcastle United, where he hopes to thrive under the management of Eddie Howe.
Although Madueke has represented England at various youth levels, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria.
