Super Eagles-eligible midfielder reaches agreement with PAOK after turning down new Man Utd deal
Published: July 27, 2024
Shola Shoretire is close to joining Super Eagles centre-back William Troost-Ekong at Greek champions PAOK after turning down a new deal at Premier League giants Manchester United.
According to trusted transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, PAOK have reached a verbal agreement with the Super Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder to join them.
The deal is expected to be completed next week as the player is set to travel to Greece in the coming days to complete th formalities of the transfer, including medical tests.
Manchester United fought tooth and nail to retain the services of the former England U19 player before the expiration of his contract but obviously failed in their pursuit with the midfielder now set to move to Greece.
Hoping to take advantage of his contractual situation with the Red Devils, Galatasaray and some clubs in England, Spain, the United States and Saudi Arabia tried signing him but have all lost out to PAOK.
Shoretire found game time to come by with Manchester United's first team, featuring in just five appearances and was loaned to Bolton Wanderers in the 2022/2023 campaign to get more first team experience under his belt.
He is now set to continue his career progression in Greece where he will be hoping he is afforded more opportunities to play first team football which could be one of the reasons he has decided to join PAOK.
