Super Eagles striker scores hat-trick as West Brom bag win against Queens Park Rangers
Published: August 10, 2024
Super Eagles striker Josh Maja put on an impressive performance, scoring a hat-trick to help West Brom secure a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Nigerian striker's goals helped his team come from behind to clinch the win in their opening game of the campaign.
Sixteen minutes into the game, Lucas Andersen opened the scoring by nodding home a cross from Rayon Kolli.
Ten minutes afterwards, Josh Maja equalized for West Brom by heading in a cross from Trobjorn Heggem.
In the second half, the 25-year-old forward gave West Brom the lead by heading in a cross from Tom Fellows at the near post.
Then, in the 65th minute, the Nigerian striker completed his hat-trick with an acrobatic kick after a poor clearance by the host's defense inside the box.
Josh Maja was substituted in the 76th minute and Decante Cole, a 29-year-old Jamaican striker, replaced him on the field.
Following his move from Bordeaux, Maja made his debut for West Brom during a thrilling 3-2 victory over Swansea City in 2023.
The former Sunderland striker will hope to earn the respect of the fans after a difficult last campaign, where he scored one goal in 12 appearances.
