Nigerian midfielder's wages could scupper potential exit from Chelsea amid Barcelona, Crystal Palace links
Published: August 18, 2024
According to The Sun UK, Carney Chukwuemeka's chance of leaving Chelsea is under threat due to his wages amid links to Crystal Palace and Barcelona.
The report stated that the Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder is on around £115,000 a week salary, which is considered extravagant for suitors and the Blues may now have to subsidize his exit.
This may have informed Chelsea's decision to also reduce his £40m valuation to hasten his exit as the club want to let go of some fringe players before the closure of this transfer window.
The Blues have spent tons of money on transfers in recent years including this summer and need to dispose of some players, with Chukwuemeka being one.
No thanks to injuries, the Aston Villa academy product has not enjoyed adequate game time since his move to Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa in 2022 and has made just 27 appearances across all competitions.
Barcelona are one of the clubs monitoring his situation but the Spanish giants will only sign the talented midfielder if the club manager Hansi Flick gives his consent to grab his signature.
Crystal Palace are also considering the possibility of signing him as Oliver Gasner seeks to strengthen his side after the departure of Michael Olise and build on their strong finish last season.
