'Has an eye for goal' - Ex-Spurs GK praises Dennis for first half display in Blackburn's defeat to Wolves
Published: February 09, 2025
Wolverhampton Wanderers secured their spot in the draw for the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon.
Emmanuel Dennis' inclusion in the starting lineup was the headline from the Blackburn Rovers' team to face Wolves.
The Nigeria international sealed a deadline day loan move to Blackburn Rovers and, just a day later, featured for the U21s, playing the first half of a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in a rescheduled Premier League International Cup match at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium.
Wolverhampton Wanderers scored twice in two first half minutes to secure their passage to the next round of the FA Cup.
João Gomes broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute and Matheus Cunha smashed the ball into the far corner to double the advantage a minute later.
Blackburn Rovers had their moments, especially in the first half, as Dom Hyam thought he had headed in the opening goal, only for it to be ruled out for offside in an incredibly tight call, while the referee also waved away their penalty appeals.
Just before the interval, Dennis, from a difficult angle, unleased a powerful strike that required a near-post save.
Making his first official first-team appearance in over nine months, the Nottingham Forest loanee delivered a solid performance during his 66 minutes on the pitch.
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, was pleased with the performance of Dennis in the first half.
He said thirteen minutes into the game: "He has looked lively Emmanuel Dennis. He's dropping deep and drawing in the centre-halves."
Reacting to Dennis' effort in the 45th minute, Robinson said: "A good strike from Emmanuel Dennis, he has an eye for goal and he hit it high and tight. Sam Johnstone put his knees together to help it out for a corner."
Blackburn Rovers return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to The Hawthorns for a showdown against West Brom.
