Super Eagles midfielder Nwakali named Barnsley's January Player of the Month
Published: February 15, 2025
Nigeria midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been named Barnsley’s Player of the Month for January, following a string of impressive performances for the League One club.
Barnsley announced the award on their official X account on Friday, celebrating the 26-year-old’s contributions over the past month.
"Congratulations to Kelechi Nwakali for being named @CopierSystems January Player of the Month,” the club wrote.
Nwakali, who joined Barnsley earlier this season, made three league appearances for the Reds in January.
His displays in midfield earned him the recognition, highlighting his growing influence under manager Darrell Clarke.
The Nigerian international has been gradually establishing himself at Oakwell and previously won the club’s Goal of the Month award for December.
His standout strike from long range demonstrated his technical ability and vision, further cementing his place as a key player in Barnsley’s squad.
So far, Nwakali has made 13 league appearances this season, scoring once.
Despite battling for consistency, his performances have been crucial in Barnsley’s push for promotion to the Championship.
The former Arsenal player, who has also had spells in the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal, will now aim to build on his recent form as the season progresses.
His recognition as Player of the Month is a testament to his hard work and growing influence at the club.
