Leeds United legend says Dessers makes Rangers teammate Igamane 'a far better player'
Published: February 19, 2025
Leeds United legend Ross McCormack has heaped praise on Cyriel Dessers, crediting the Nigerian forward for playing a key role in the success of Hamza Igamane, the Moroccan attacker.
Dessers, who had previously lost his starting position to Igamane during a difficult spell at the club, fought his way back into the squad with impressive performances.
His resurgence began with a hat-trick in Rangers’ 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh F.C and continued with a crucial goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League.
His return to form has led to a strong attacking partnership with Igamane, a combination that McCormack believes has helped bring out the best in the Moroccan forward.
In quotes relayed by Rangers News, McCormack expressed admiration for Dessers' impact on the team.
"I’ve been a fan of Cyriel Dessers this season. I like it when he plays,” McCormack says. "I think he gives Rangers a different dimension.
"I think, when he plays, Igamane’s then got the freedom to go and sort of do whatever he wants; Drop deep, link the play, turn and run at people, play. I think he looks a far better player for that."
Dessers has been in outstanding form for Rangers this season, registering 18 goals and six assists in 39 matches across all competitions.
With his recent performances, the 30-year-old forward hopes to secure a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda in March.
