Super Eagles forward Dennis suffers defeat on Championship debut for Blackburn Rovers
Published: February 23, 2025
In a game that saw both sides guided by interim managers, Swansea City thrashed Blackburn Rovers 3-0 at Swansea.com Stadium, with Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis making his Championship debut for the visitors.
Blackburn Rovers arrived Wales aiming to make it three victories in a row for the first time in 2025 but suffered a heavy defeat.
In search of playing opportunities, Dennis completed a move to Blackburn Rovers a few hours before the close of the January transfer window.
After making his competitive debut in an Emirates FA Cup clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Nottingham Forest loanee was an unused substitute in back-to-back Championship games against West Brom and Plymouth Argyle.
Against the run of play, Swansea City took the lead not long before half-time as their Slovenian striker Zan Vipotnik squeezed the ball beyond goalkeeper Aynsley Pears in the 39th minute.
Right on half-time when it looked Blackburn were the most likely to score, the Swans took a firm grip on the game as Myles Peart-Harris slotted beyond Pears to double the advantage.
Blackburn boss David Lowe made a triple change in the 56th minute, one of which saw Dennis replace Andreas Weimann for his league debut.
However, it was surely game over in the 62nd minute when Liam Cullen secured the points for the Swans with a third goal.
Blackburn Rovers, sixth in the Championship table with 51 points from 34 games, will be back on the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Norwich City to Ewood Park.
