Silencing the doubters: Dessers scores 26th goal of the season as Rangers thrash Aberdeen
Published: May 11, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers continued his fine form on Sunday afternoon, scoring his 26th goal of the season to help Rangers secure a commanding 4-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken by Václav Černý in the 55th minute.
Just six minutes later, Dessers doubled Rangers' lead with a composed finish, tapping home a low cross from Nico Raskin delivered from the byline.
The goal marked Dessers’ 26th of the campaign, along with seven assists in 53 appearances across all competitions, reaffirming his status as Rangers’ top scorer for the season.
Despite being a key attacking threat, the Nigerian international has faced constant criticism from sections of the fanbase and pundits questioning his long-term suitability for the club.
His form, however, continues to silence doubters and attract attention beyond Scotland.
Dessers was the subject of transfer interest last January, with clubs from Italy and Spain — including Leganés and Cagliari — reportedly monitoring his situation.
The 30-year-old ultimately remained at Ibrox but speculation around his future is expected to resurface in the summer transfer window.
With Rangers hoping to end the campaign on a positive note, Dessers will hope to maintain his scoring momentum and finish the season on a high.
