Rangers end 7-game winless home run, clean sheet, Raskin's brace of assists: What Balogun said
Published: May 11, 2025
Nigerian defender Leon Balogun has expressed his delight following Rangers’ emphatic 4-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox, a result that ended the club’s seven-match winless streak at home in the Scottish Premiership.
Balogun, 36, started at the heart of the defence and helped the Gers keep a long-awaited clean sheet. Second-half goals from Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane, and Jefte secured a morale-boosting win in front of the home crowd.
"It has been seven games without a win at Ibrox, and it was not something to be proud of,” Balogun told RangersTV.
"That is why it is good to take that monkey off our back. I think overall it was quite comfortable from start to finish, but there was still more in the tank."
Balogun credited manager Philippe Clement for motivating the team at half-time, urging them to raise their intensity.
"We turned up the dial in the second half and you could see what we are capable of,” the former Super Eagles defender said.
"It is a shame that throughout the season we had to address this over and over again, but on the positive side, it is a great result today."
On the clean sheet, Balogun said, “It is always great, that also has been quite a while so I will take the positives out of that. We are not blind to the negatives, but we have to look forward."
The veteran defender also took time to praise Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin, who delivered two assists in a commanding display.
"Kudos to him, the way he has brushed himself off and got himself up again. He really put in the work, not just today, but in Europe as well. I’m really delighted for him.”
Looking ahead, Balogun emphasized the importance of consistency in Rangers’ final two games of the season.
"Wednesday is the last game at Ibrox of the season, so we have to make sure that this is a nice finish for the supporters who have been amazing all season. Then we need to go away to Hibs and replicate it too."
Rangers will aim to build on this dominant performance as they close out their campaign.
