'No such thing as a friendly when playing for Nigeria' – Moses Simon fires warning to Jamaica
Published: May 30, 2025
Nigeria forward Moses Simon has expressed excitement and confidence ahead of Saturday’s Unity Cup final against Jamaica in London.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Simon said the tournament has been a refreshing experience and promised that the Super Eagles are fully prepared.
"I feel good. It’s my first time playing in a tournament like this in the UK, and of course, we are prepared,” Simon said.
"We know what it takes. There's no such thing as a friendly game when you’re playing for Nigeria.”
Simon praised Jamaica’s quality but made it clear that Nigeria are ready for the battle.
"Jamaica have a strong team. Beating them in the final won’t be easy. They have good players, a good coach—just like us. So, we’ll see how it goes," he added.
Asked about rivalries and camaraderie among African teams, Simon brought a touch of humour by referencing the long-running debate over Jollof rice supremacy.
"I’d say Ghana, because we’re very close and we have a rivalry—especially over Jollof rice,” he said.
"It’s not about war; it’s just about who’s better. Our fathers have had this rivalry, and we’ve continued it. So, who has the best? If you watched the last game, you already know."
The Super Eagles will face Jamaica in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup final following their hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Black Stars of Ghana on Wednesday.
