Prolific Chelsea striker eager to switch from England to Nigeria after meeting with Eric Chelle
Published: May 31, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that prolific Chelsea youth team striker Chizzy Ezenwata is ready to ditch England for Nigeria after a private meeting with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
Ezenwata, 16, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Chelsea academy sides, netting 12 goals across all competitions, often playing above his age group.
Eligible to represent England, Nigeria and Cameroon at senior level, the young striker is currently provisionally cap-tied to the European nation, having scored on his competitive debut for the Young Lions in a European U17 Championship qualifier against Malta last year.
On Thursday, May 29, Chizzy Ezenwata visited the Super Eagles’ camp in West London, accompanied by his father, former Gombe United player Ndubuisi Ezenwata.
Chizzy received a warm welcome from Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles squad during his visit, where discussions included the prospect of him playing for Nigeria's Flying Eagles or Olympic team.
Sources close to the family confirm that Ezenwata is now willing to play for Nigeria youth teams, pending a formal change of association request to FIFA.
Although he has made four appearances and scored twice for England U17s, Ezenwata was left out of the squad for the 2025 European U17 Championship—further fueling speculation about his international future.
