Camp update: Getafe's Uche trains with Super Eagles in London before Unity Cup final
Published: May 30, 2025
Getafe midfielder Chrisantus Uche has finally joined the Super Eagles camp in London ahead of the Unity Cup final against Jamaica, following an earlier delay due to visa issues, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Uche trained with the team on Friday and was officially welcomed later that evening in the traditional initiation ceremony for new players.
His arrival boosts the midfield options for Nigeria as they prepare for their final game of the mini-tournament.
The Super Eagles will take on Jamaica on Saturday in the Unity Cup final after edging Ghana 2-1 in their opening match.
The team is looking to round off the competition on a high note, with Uche now available for selection.
Uche’s presence is a significant addition, as the 22-year-old has shown promise with Getafe in La Liga this season.
His late arrival comes after he missed Nigeria's opener against Ghana due to entry visa challenges, which also affected goalkeeper Amas Obasogie.
In a further boost for the national team, Uche has also been named in the squad for Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia next week.
His inclusion underlines the coaching staff’s confidence in his potential to contribute at the senior level.
With preparations complete, the Super Eagles are set to face Jamaica at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on Saturday, aiming to claim the Unity Cup title before turning attention to the June 6 clash with Russia.
