'An interesting summer' - Aston Vila and Barcelona target backs Sadiq to revive Real Sociedad career
Published: June 01, 2025
Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro has highlighted Umar Sadiq’s performances during his loan spell at Valencia, suggesting the Nigerian striker could play a key role for the Basque club next season.
Remiro, a Spain international, has confirmed that La Liga champions Barcelona and Premier League side Aston Villa are interested in his services in the summer transfer window, but highlighted that he's also on the radar of other unnamed clubs.
Speaking to El Diario Vasco, via Estadio Deportivo, Remiro noted that the club has been closely following its loaned-out players, naming Sadiq and Urko González de Zárate as standout performers.
"With Urko, for example, we have a very good relationship, his performance has been magnificent. I like him a lot,” said thehighly-coveted goalkeeper, Remiro.
"We’ve followed the loanees and the future players. Both Urko and Sadiq have been good, and it’s going to be an interesting summer."
Sadiq, 28, joined Valencia on loan during the winter transfer window after falling out of favour with Real Sociedad head coach Imanol Alguacil.
In 19 appearances for the Mestalla club, Sadiq scored six goals and showed signs of the form that had initially prompted La Real to invest in him.
However, Valencia are not expected to trigger the purchase option, meaning the forward is set to return to San Sebastián, where his contract runs until June 2028.
The decision on Sadiq’s future now rests with newly appointed sporting director Erik Bretos, who must determine whether the striker has a place in Real Sociedad’s plans for next season.
