'I'm happy' - Eric Chelle gives a shout-out to youngest foreign-based duo Uche and Fredrick after win

Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle has singled out Christantus Uche and Benjamin Fredrick for praise following their impressive performances in Nigeria's thrilling win over Jamaica on Saturday evening.
Of the fifteen Nigerian players who featured in the victory over the Reggae Boyz, Uche, 22, and Fredrick, 20, were the two youngest foreign-based players on display at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Both players made their debuts in the match, helping the Super Eagles secure a 5-4 victory over the Reggae Boys after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
In his post-match remarks, Chelle commended the duo for their impact, highlighting their individual qualities. The Malian coach was particularly impressed with young forward Uche, applauding his energy and commitment throughout the game.
"Uche made a great commitment on the pitch and I am happy about Fredrick too," Chelle highlighted.
"I am happy about the other players. I think he deserves to come to the Nigerian team."
However, he lauded the Brentford defender for his composure and football intelligence, while also stressing the importance of continued development to elevate his game further.
"Benjamin Fredrick was good, I was so proud of him. He makes a strong pass and reads the game but he needs to improve."
Uche earned his national team call-up following an impressive season with Getafe, where he scored four goals and registered six assists in 33 league appearances.
Fredrick, on the other hand, was rewarded with a spot in the squad after his standout performances for Brentford U21s, playing a key role in their Premier League 2 title triumph.
With both youngsters making a strong impression, Chelle will be hoping they continue their progress and contribute to the Super Eagles’ push for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
