Confirmed: Nigerian centre-back released by Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur
Published: June 01, 2025
Newly crowned UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur have published their released list for the 2024–2025 season, confirming several departures following the conclusion of scholarship and professional contracts.
Among those released is Nigerian central defender Timileyin Adekunle, who will not be part of the squad for the 2025–2026 UEFA Youth League campaign.
Spurs announced on Saturday that the 18-year-old has left following the end of his scholarship deal.
Adekunle departs without making a first-team appearance and did not feature in the FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy or Premier League 2 during his time in north London.
His final season saw him limited to four appearances across the U18 Premier League, U18 Premier League Cup and National League Cup — a sign he was surplus to requirements.
Born in Newham and capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back, Adekunle first caught attention during the 2022–2023 season when he scored five goals for Spurs U16s, earning a scholarship as a result.
Off the pitch, he earned district honours in school athletics, excelled in basketball and enjoys playing table tennis in his spare time.
