Why Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq missed Real Sociedad's 4-1 win against Osasuna
Published: July 30, 2025
Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq was absent from Real Sociedad's 4-1 pre-season victory over Osasuna on Wednesday as the team continued preparations for the 2025/2026 campaign.
Sadiq, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Valencia, was notably missing from the squad amid growing speculation about his future.
Despite links to a return to Valencia, as well as interest from Alavés and Almería, his absence had nothing to do with a potential transfer or injury concerns.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the 28-year-old forward missed the friendly due to illness after suffering a fever shortly before the game.
Sadiq had a challenging start to last season with Real Sociedad before rediscovering form during his loan spell at Valencia, where he netted five goals in 16 La Liga appearances.
However, with uncertainty still surrounding his long-term future at the club, every pre-season appearance is seen as crucial in convincing new manager Sergio Francisco of his value.
Sadiq will now focus on recovering in time for Sociedad's next friendly fixture against Rennes, where he will aim to make his first appearance of the preseason and stake his claim for a regular role in the team.
