After Semi Ajayi, Hull City sign another London-born Nigerian CB with a Charlton Athletic past
Published: July 30, 2025
EFL Championship side Hull City announced the signing of Akin Famewo before Tuesday's friendly against Premier League new boys Sunderland.
Famewo has joined The Tigers on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 73 appearances during a three-year spell.
The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Hull City, with a club option for the 2028-2029 season.
Famewo has become the second London-born Nigerian centre-back with a Charlton Athletic background to join Hull City as a free agent in the summer transfer window, following in the footsteps of Super Eagles star Semi Ajayi.
While Ajayi spent the formative years of his career at the Addicks before transferring to Arsenal, Famewo enjoyed two loan spells at the club.
Famewo began his career at Luton Town, made a brief loan stop at Grimsby Town, and joined Norwich City in 2019, where he earned a Premier League appearance on the final day of the 2019-2020 season before loan spells at St Mirren and Charlton Athletic.
The Lewisham native has 139 appearances to his name in the English Football League, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
He describes himself as composed on the ball, aggressive on the pitch and passionate.
