Super Eagles camp update: Boniface, Obasogie among 18 players in Moscow; Onyemaechi yet to arrive
Published: June 02, 2025
Following their dramatic penalty shootout victory over Jamaica in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on Saturday, the Super Eagles have arrived in Moscow to begin preparations for their high-profile international friendly against Russia.
The Nigerian delegation, which includes 18 players at present, officially opened camp in the Russian capital on Monday evening.
The squad assembled in batches, with players such as Victor Boniface, William Troost-Ekong, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Raphael Onyedika among the early arrivals.
Nigeria's heroics in London, where they triumphed 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Jamaica, have set a confident tone heading into the encounter with Russia.
Also in camp are goalkeepers Maduka Okoye and Amas Obasogie, defenders Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, Benjamin Fredrick, and Bright Osayi-Samuel. Midfielders Frank Onyeka, Chrisantus Uche, Isaac Saviour, and Papa Mustapha Daniel are present, as well as forwards Sikiru Alimi, Ismaila Sadiq, Tolu Arokodare, and Moses Simon.
Two more players, Bruno Onyemaechi and FC Krasnodar’s Olusegun Olakunle, are expected to join the team on Tuesday morning.
The team’s first training session is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Moscow, as they build towards the friendly scheduled for Friday.
The fixture against Russia offers the Super Eagles a valuable opportunity to continue shaping the squad ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming later this year.
Nigeria's coach, Eric Chelle will be looking to assess several fringe players while continuing to fine-tune his tactical approach following a morale-boosting Unity Cup campaign.
