Nigeria 2 Cameroon 0: Ajibade at the double as Falcons record 15th victory v Indomitable Lionesses
Published: June 03, 2025
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a superb performance as Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in an entertaining encounter at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
With Chiamaka Nnadozie starting between the posts and Ifeoma Onumonu leading the line, the Falcons began brightly, stringing together sharp attacking moves and dominating possession.
Cameroon offered resistance early on, but it was Nigeria who carried the greater threat in the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute after Ajibade won a penalty and stepped up to convert with composure, sending the Cameroonian goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-0.
Moments later, she nearly doubled her tally, denied only by a fine save in a one-on-one. Onumonu also came close, flashing a shot just wide of the post.
As the first half neared its end, the Falcons turned on the style. A precise through ball from Rinsola Babajide found Ajibade again in the 43rd minute, and the captain made no mistake, finishing clinically to make it 2-0 before the break.
Francisca Ordega replaced Onumonu for the second half, while Cameroon battled to regain footing.
The Super Falcons, however, continued to dictate the tempo, with Babajide and Payne orchestrating attacks.
Injuries forced substitutions, with Babajide replaced by Bolaji Olamide, and Christy Ucheibe coming in for Toni Payne.
Despite late pressure from Cameroon, Nnadozie preserved the clean sheet with a stunning reflex save in stoppage time.
The win marks Nigeria’s 15th in 21 matches against the Indomitable Lionesses.
