Confirmed: Liverpool offer new deals to two promising Nigerian centre-backs
Published: June 06, 2025
Premier League champions Liverpool are looking to secure the futures of two promising central defenders of Nigerian descent before the start of pre-season preparations.
The Reds confirmed via their official website on Friday morning that contract offers have been made to Emmanuel Airoboma and Wellity Lucky.
Born in Zaragoza to Nigerian parents, Lucky began his football journey with San Gregorio Arrabal and Real Zaragoza before relocating to England with his family.
The 19-year-old joined Liverpool's Academy as an U13 and signed his first professional contract with the club in April 2023.
During the 2024-2025 season, he featured in 17 matches across the Premier League 2, UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy, showcasing his growing potential as a modern central defender.
Lucky has been offered a fresh four-year deal but Liverpool face competition for his signature from clubs in Spain and Germany, who are also in talks with the talented defender.
Versatile defender Airoboma has been on the books of Liverpool since U12 level, rising through the ranks to make his debut in the U18 Premier League in his first season as a scholar.
The 18-year-old was snapped up by Liverpool after he was spotted playing at grassroots level by Academy scout Wayne Woods.
Airoboma has made 22 appearances in the U18 Premier League but is yet to debut in Premier League 2.
Both Lucky and Airoboma are capable of slotting in at right-back when required.
