Olusegun reveals Russian words he taught Super Eagles players before Moscow friendly
Published: June 08, 2025
Krasnodar forward Olakunle Olusegun has shared a lighthearted insight into how he helped his Super Eagles teammates navigate their brief stay in Moscow ahead of the international friendly with Russia on Friday night.
Olusegun, who recently celebrated a league title triumph with FC Krasnodar, made his senior debut for Nigeria in the match, coming on as a substitute for Christantus Uche with 14 minutes remaining.
Speaking in an interview with Championat, the 23-year-old revealed he taught some basic Russian phrases to his national teammates to help them communicate while in the country.
"Yes. “How are you? Good," Olakunle revealed the simple Russian words he told his teammates.
When asked whether he taught them any curse words or slang, he laughed and replied, “Bad words? No, no. Not that (laughs).”
The forward received a late call-up to the national team following a series of withdrawals in the forward line.
His invitation was widely seen as a reward for his consistent performances in the Russian Premier League and his familiarity with the local terrain.
Olusegun played a key role in Krasnodar’s historic league-winning campaign, making 19 league appearances and scoring two goals as the club edged out giants Zenit St. Petersburg to claim the title.
Despite his success in Russia, questions linger over his future with Krasnodar.
Several English Championship clubs are reportedly tracking the young winger in the summer window.
While Olakunle has expressed satisfaction with life in Russia, the lure of English football and the opportunity to take his career to the next level may influence his next move.
