Confirmed: Southampton offer new contracts to two Nigerian players
Published: June 10, 2025
Relegated Premier League club Southampton have submitted their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season.
The Saints confirmed that two promising Nigerian players have been offered new deals ahead of the upcoming season.
Princewill Ehibhatiomhan and Abdulhalim Olarewaju Okunola are out of contract at the end of this month, but have been offered new deals to extend their stay at the St Mary's Stadium.
A striker by trade, Ehibhatiomhan joined Southampton in March 2023 following a successful trial, signing his first professional contract.
The exciting center forward has scored fifteen goals in 44 Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup games, and netted eight goals in seventeen U18 Premier League matches before his promotion to the development squad.
Okunola made the switch to Southampton in the summer of 2023 following his departure from Chelsea, penning a two-year scholarship deal that is set to expire at the end of this month.
The teenage centre-back made 27 appearances last season, turning out in both the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.
Meanwhile, another player with ties to Chelsea, Derrick Abu, is among those to have been released.
Zachariah Awe, Joe Aribo, Samuel Edozie, Paul Onuachu, Adewale Oyekunle, Victor Udoh and Chidiebere Umeh have all been retained.
